2, The Ranting Gryphon was born Matthew Wayne Davis in Fayetteville, Arkansas, August 11th, 1972 to Wayne and Janet Davis. He has a brother, Michael, and an adopted sister, Megan, who both still reside in his home town to this day.

Raised under loving, Christian parents, he attended public school and church. From a young age, he became interested in music, recording his first song at the age of 6. His father was a Christian minister and the family moved about the southern US for most of his young life.

During his teens, 2 became interested in rock music and taught himself how to play guitar and sing. He played with many heavy metal bands in the 80's, gaining moderate noteriety at times. It was his first taste of being a performer, and he found himself hooked.

In his late teens, 2 spent three years as a Christian minister, like his father, for the Church Of Christ, afterward travelling with a Christian rock band for a period.

In 1992, his father died of congestive heart failure. 2 had become interested in computers and programming at the time and often worked with his father, building and repairing early PCs for others.

With the loss of his father, 2 found himself questioning his spiritual ideals and, in 1994, declared himself to be agnostic.

For several years, 2 moved around the country on his own, finding himself in places like Visalia, California, Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Dover, Delaware.

Finally, in the late 90's, 2 found work composing music for video games. He also began to develop an interest in drawing.

In 1999, 2 put his first rants on his website, which gained widespread attention in the furry fandom, much to his surprise. He performed his first stand up comedy show at Midwest Furfest in 2000.

Today, he lives just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has a weekly web radio program and is currently travelling on an international comedy tour.
